Earth, Wind & Fire, the R&B-Pop-Soul band from Chicago, have produced quite a number of hits during

the 1970’s and early 1980’s. The biggest hits were “September”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “After the Love

Has Gone”, “Let’s Groove”, and “Fantasy”.

“I Am”, originally released in 1979, features “Boogie Wonderland” (featuring the vocals of The Emotions),

which became one of the most popular disco and cross-over hits of that time and ballad “After the Love

Has Gone”. Affraid to be labeled Discoband, Verdine White stated “we might have partied, but we didn’t

dance!”.

Having sold over 90 million albums worldwide and winning 6 Grammy Awards, the band is ranked on the

list of best-selling music artists. Main musical elements of Earth, Wind & Fire, led by founder Maurice

White, are African and Latin American influences mixed with funk, soul & pop with hints of rock and jazz.

“I Am” is a good testimony to the solid combination of the band’s vocal strength and instrumental

backup!

“Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk” is the

collection of studio tracks and four-track demos

recorded by Jeff Buckley in the summer of 1996

and early 1997.

Buckley had been working on an album to be called

“My Sweetheart, the Drunk”, but the album had

yet to be finished at the time of his death. It was

released posthumously in May 1998. Given the raw

and somewhat unfinished nature of the songs, the

collection that was released was called “Sketches

for My Sweetheart the Drunk”.

The album's original sessions were produced by

Television frontman Tom Verlaine. Despite its

unfinished state, the album received many positive

reviews. After the audiophile releases of "Grace" ,

"The Grace EP´s" and "Mystery White Boy", this

release on Music on Vinyl completes the series of

available Jeff Buckley studio material.

This 3LP audiophile set is housed in a firm

5mm sleeve. 180 grams audiophile vinyl

OPETH - “BLACKWATER PARK” 2LP + DVD

Generally hailed as OPETH’ opus magnum, “Blackwater Park” (2001) has proven to be a

transitional album for the band. While its earlier albums bring extreme and epic metal, later

albums are leaning heavily towards mid-seventies progressive rock. “Blackwater Park” brings

you the best of both, with tons of huge metal riffing, pre-metal proggy hooks and dark lyrical

topics. In this new direction, OPETH sounds remarkably fresh and convincing on each lengthy

track, fully exploring and captivating. No less today than at the time of the original release!

Accompanying the 2010 Legacy CD/DVD Edition of the album, Music on Vinyl will issue the

album as an Expanded Audiophile Edition.

PRINCE NICO MBARGA & ROCAFIL JAZZ INTERNATIONAL - “Cool Money”

Nico%20Mbarga,%20front.jpg

Format: LP

Cat. No.: MJJLP305 / B. G82113

Barcode: 0889397830519

Prince Nico Mbarga (1950–1997) was a half-Cameroonian

Nigerian highlife vocalist and guitarist whose music played a

significant role in the evolution of African pop music. His 1976 hit

song “Sweet Mother” (which sold more than 13 million copies) is

so popular that is sometimes called “Africa's anthem”, no small

feat for a continent with such a rich musical tradition! Like many,

Prince Nico began playing with a hotel band in 1970, and by1973

had his first local hit. Cool Money is a rare 1979 album, originally

released on the Nigerian RAS (Roger's All Stars) label, when the artist was at the height of his

success. Prince Nico was unfortunately killed in 1997 in a motorcycle accident, which of course,

has only added to his legend.

Chuck Prophet - “Let Freedom Ring!”

CHUCK_PROPHET_LET_FREEDOM_RING_20090810_110443.jpg

DIV 021 LP / B. G81821

5060187000113

Single 180gLP/ 300g gloss sleeve

Mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Geoff Pesche

Players:

Chuck Prophet with:

Ernest “Boom” Carter - drums

Tom Ayres - guitar

Rusty Miller - bass

Featuring: Greg Leisz (guitars), Stephie Finch, Kelley Stoltz, Rusty, AKA “The Dream Team” on vocals, Kevin T

White (bass on “Hot Talk”), James DePrato (guitar on “¡Let Freedom Ring!”) Sara Watkins (fiddle and harmony on

“What Can A Mother Do” and fiddle on “Hot Talk”)—courtesy of Nonesuch Records.

Prophet started his wild ride back in 1984, when Green on Red, the

seminal purveyors of American Rock-Roots, plucked him out of

Berkeley, CA and threw him in the van for an eight-year ride, and the

recording of as many albums. Since then Prophet has recorded nine

amazing solo albums and toured and recorded with the likes of

Lucinda Williams, Aimee Mann, Cake, and Jonathan Richman, not to

mention production credits for Warren Zevon, Alejandro Escovedo

and Kelly Willis. Ryan Adams, Solomon Burke and Heart have

recorded his songs, along with a host of others. Prophet has never

been one to rest on his laurels and ride it out.

For his ninth solo album “Let Freedom Ring”, Chuck reached out to

some musicians and talked them into going down to Mexico City, The

Biggest City in the World (pop. 25 million). Recorded at Estudio 19, a

state-ofthe- art studio (well, circa 1958 state-of-the-art anyway) with

Greg Leisz (Beck, Wilco, Emmylou Harris) coproducing.

Within three days of arriving swine flu broke out and the indignity of

having to wear blue surgical masks just to fit in.

Over the course of the next eight days, the band set about recording

¡Let Freedom Ring!, enduring a poorly timed blackout, shakedowns

by the Policia, and a 6.4 earthquake mid-take - Mexico City might only

be 4 hours away by plane but it might as well have been on the other

side of the moon. But whilst mayhem ensued, the band buckled down

to the task in hand, all set up together in a tight little bamboo lined

room with the amps cranked. Chuck played his Fender Squire, Kelly

Stoltz on backing vocals, Rusty Miller (Jason Lyte‟s band) played

bass while Drummer Ernest "Boom" Carter turned his sticks into

kindling. Carter played on Springsteen‟s “Born To Run” - he promptly

quit the E Street Band after they spent 6 months recording it. The

results can be heard from the Clash inspired opener to the power pop

of „Let Freedom Ring‟ and the Eddie Cochran infused „Good Time

Crowd‟.

ROBERT WILKINS - “That's No Way To Get Along”

wilkins.jpg

Format: LP

Cat. No.: MKLP324 / B. G82470

Barcode: 0889397453244

Seminal American blues guitarist and vocalist Robert Wilkins (1896-1987) played on the

Memphis blues scene at the same time as Furry Lewis, Son House, Charley Patton and Memphis

Minnie, and was versatile in a range of styles, including ragtime, blues, minstrel and gospel.

These recordings cover his early years as a recording artist, from his debut recording session for

Victor in 1928, which yielded the famous “Rolling Stone”, plus three more tracks, followed by 8

more tracks recorded for Vocalion in 1929-30, which included the legendary “That's No Way To

Get Along / aka “Prodigal Son” (famously covered by the Rolling Stones). The final 5 tracks were

recorded in Jackson, Miss. in 1935 and feature a second guitar player and a spoons player,

resulting in the production of another classic, “Old Jim Canan's”. In 1935 Wilkins left secular

music altogether, becoming an ordained minister and herbalist. He was, however, rediscovered in

the 1960s during the blues revival and played various festivals during this time, including

Newport.

SLEEPY JOHN ESTES - “I Ain't Gonna Be Worried No More”

Format: 2LP

Cat. No.: MKDLP325 / B. G82474

Barcode: 8013252453250

A 24-song retrospective recorded between 1929-1937 in Memphis, Chicago and NYC, when

Tennessee native, Sleepy John Estes was at the height of his abilities. Despite the fact that Estes

wasn't the fastest or most technical blues guitarists out there, his distinct and emotional vocals,

and uniquely relaxed style more than compensates for this, making him one of the genre's true

geniuses. Estes, in fact, perhaps because he wasn't a guitar virtuoso, usually preferred to play in

a group setting, and on these recordings he is often accompanied by great players like “Yank”

Rachell on mandolin or Hammie Nixon on harmonica. He is also frequently accompanied by

piano and sometimes second guitar. Estes is also well known for his lyrics which talked about

places and people he know. I Ain't Gonna Be Worried No More contains all of his best songs,

including blues favorites like “The Girl I Love, She Got Long Curly Hair” (covered by Led

Zeppelin), “Drop Down Mama”, “Milk Cow Blues” (covered by The Kinks), and “Someday Baby

Blues” (covered by Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan).

HERMAN BROOD - “STREET”

Herman Brood may be the only real Dutch example of the Sex, Drugs en Rock & Roll lifestyle.

He had his share of club-gigs and Rock & Roll before he started his own band. As a young

Herman he played with Dutch Blues-masters Cuby & The Blizzards (late 60’s), the bands Stud,

Flash & Dance Band (with Jan Akkerman) and Vitesse. After a short reunion of Cuby & The

Blizzards (mid 70’s) he started his own Herman Brood & His Wild Romance.

Raw, unadulterated Rock & Roll from the Lowlands, with international appeal! ’77 was the year

their debut LP “Street” saw the light (after which “Sphritz” followed, which contained the

international hit ‘Saturday Night’).

“Street” is a classic Dutch album and will be released on 180 grams audiophile vinyl with flashy

PAVLOV’S DOG - “PAMPERED MENIAL”

Pavlov’s Dog, the 70’s AOR / Prog-rock band, was an odd crew. The band combined guitar,

keyboards, percussion and bass with mellotrons, flutes and violins. On top of that, singer David

Surkamp’s voice has one of those ‘hate it or love it’ voices that’s reminiscent of Rush- frontman

Geddy Lee’s vocal range.

“Pampered Menial” was Pavlov's Dog first album, originally released on ABC Dunhill and rereleased

on Columbia in 1974. At the time the band was signed, they received a $600,000

advance from ABC which was a record advance for any new group signed at that time.

The songs "Julia" and "Theme From Subway Sue" received the most airplay.

“Pampered Menial” is a crossover album combining 70's hard rock and progressive rock and is

strongly recommended to fans of either of those genres. We’re pleased to release this long-lost

gem in original gatefold sleeve, this time on 180 grams audiophile vinyl!

After Leftfield’s debut album ”Leftism”, which was released in 1995 (and now available as

MOVLP044), it took 4 years for the London-based producers duo to release the sequel.

Sounding completely different than the first album, “Rhythm and Stealth” was worth waiting

for. It sounds more diverse and solid than its predecessor and contains exciting collaborations

with Roots Manuva on the track “Dusted” and Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa on the dance

floor killer “Afrika Shox”, which was accompanied by a state-of-the-art and shocking video.

“Rhythm and Stealth” is a great excursion into many different styles; it moves from funk to hip

hop to techno to electro, to ambient and dub, but still sounds cohesive.

You might even recognize some of the tracks from the movies. “Swords” was featured in the

1999 movie “Go” and “Afrika Shox” can be heard in the box office success movie Vanilla Sky,

starring Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz.

CANNONBALL ADDERLEY WITH MILT JACKSON - “Things Are Getting Better”

Format: 180 gram LP Cat. No.: DOXLP834 / B.G84957 Barcode: 8013252888342

aprv-1128.jpg

All-star session recorded in NYC in the autumn of 1958, led by Cannonball Adderley on alto sax, and Milt Jackson on vibes. The rhythm section is also no less noteworthy with Wynton Kelly on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Art Blakey on drums. This date represents an interesting and successful juxtaposition of the two sides of jazz at the time, with Adderley coming from the more improvisational and swinging side of downtown jazz and Jackson coming from the more cerebral side of jazz as 'high art'. But despite hailing from different sides of the scene, both men are considered venerable “practitioners of the blues” and this is perhaps the tie that binds these men together on this memorable date. The group plays a range of tunes including two of Adderley's own compositions: the title track “Things Are Getting Better” and “Sounds For Sid” (dedicated to a favorite disc jockey of the time). Jackson also contributes one of his own themes with the original “Blues Oriental”, which leads off the disc. They also play Dizzy's bop-era classic “Groovin' High”, while Adderley presents his own modern take on “The Sidewalks of New York”. An important meeting of top shelf jazz musicians in a critical year in jazz history.

Tracks - Side A: 1. Blues Oriental (Milt Jackson) 2. Things Are Getting Better (Julian Adderley) 3. Serves Me Right (Budd Johnson) 4. Groovin’ High (Dizzie Gillespie) Side B: 1. The Sidewalks of New York (Lawlor-Blake/arr. Julian Adderley) 2. Sounds for Sid (Julian Adderley) 3. Just One of Those Things (Cole Porter)

BLOSSOM DEARIE “Give Him The Ohh-La-La”

Format: 180 gram LP with printed innersleeve with lyrics Cat. No.: DOXLP835L / B. G84963 Barcode: 8013252888359

In the era of the Marilyn Monroe blond bombshell, Blossom Dearie was quietly driving men just as wild by being the innocently sexy girl-next-door. Her almost childlike voice is both unforgettable and uniquely recognizable and she has a way of captivating listeners in a way that only truly great singers can. The aptly titled, “Give Him the Ooh La La”, recorded in 1957 for Verve, was Dearie’s first release after returning home to NY after gaining popularity on the Paris vocal jazz scene, and is definitely one of her best. Here she sings standards like “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” and Cole Porter’s “Just One of Those Things”, as well as some more surprisingly obscure material from her day, like “They Say It’s Spring”, “I Walk a Little Faster” and “The Riviera”, two Cy Coleman tunes. She also sings “Plus je T’Embrasse”, in tribute to her days spent in Paris and also does her own piano accompaniment throughout.

"This gorgeous set of piano improvisations reflects minimalist composer Terry Riley's

lifelong study of Indian music. It is an outstanding recording which captures Terry

Riley at an inspired peak. Performances of such spontaneous and beautiful music

are scarce and even less-frequently performed by the composer himself at such a

late stage in an extraordinary career. To sound so inspired and inventive some 40

years after defining minimalist music is quite a feat. Coming from such a consistently

brilliant composer, who would expect less?" (Skip Jansen)

Doxy brings you this deluxe 4LP set of Akira Kurosawa's most celebrated

soundtracks in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of this

great master of Japanese cinema!

Akira Kurosawa's films dominated Japanese cinema for nearly half a century

and his influence has been so widespread and profound that the world's best

filmmakers seem to unanimously sing his praise. He first gained the attention

of the international filmmaking community in 1951 when his masterpiece,

Rashomon, won top prize at the Venice Film Festival. It was during this time

that Kurosawa also began collaborating with the award-winning composer

Fumio Hayasaka. The two great men soon formed a deep connection, with Kurosawa later commenting

that Hayasaka caused him to see film music as a “counterpoint” to the image instead of a mere

“accompaniment”. Another promising young composer, Masaru Satō, soon joined the ranks at Toho

Studios, working under Hayasaka. However, when Hayasaka died suddenly in 1955, Satō was left on his

own to finish the unfinished film score. Kurosawa was so impressed with the results that he asked Satō to

score his next two films, Throne of Blood and The Hidden Fortress.

Includes soundtracks to: Rashomon (1950), the dramatic Ikiru aka “To Live” (1952), the epic Seven

Samurai (1954), Record of A Living Being aka “I Live in Fear” (1955), 1957's much celebrated adaptation

of Macbeth, Throne of Blood, and 1958's The Hidden Fortress.

ANGOLA PRISONERS' BLUES

(W/ Matthew “Hogman” Maxey / Robert “Guitar” Welch)

Format: 180 gram LP + printed insert (lyrics and notes)

Cat. No.: DOY LP636 / B.G89030

Barcode: 8013252886362

cd4194.jpg

In 1959, a young folklorist and musicologist, Harry Oster, traveled to the State Prison in

Angola, Louisiana to collect folksongs. He made a number of field recordings while at the

prison, but his biggest discovery was undoubtedly the Louisiana Blues Hall of Famer, Robert

Pete Williams, a truly gifted musician and blues writer, who was serving a life sentence. Of

the 9 songs on this album, four are by Williams, who sings heart-wrenchingly about prison

life and being down and out. Thanks to Oster, Williams was eventually released from prison,

and was able to have a fairly successful career as a bluesman in the 60s and 70s, appearing

at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival and touring the US and Europe. The other musicians

featured here, fellow inmates Robert “Guitar” Welch and Matthew “Hogman” Maxey, are both

extremely gifted musicians, but in the words of Dr. Oster (who would go on to write the

“Penguin Guide to American Folklore” in 2000), “they are primarily the heirs of a clearly

defined and standardized blues tradition, rather than innovators”. In any case, this is acoustic

prison blues at its finest, and includes such detailed liner notes as well as an annotated track

listing that it is equal parts musical and historical document.

Tracks

Side A: 1. Levee Camp Blues (Robert Pete Williams) 2. Stagolee (Hogman Maxey) 3.

Electric Chair Blues (Guitar Welch) 4. Prisoner’s Talking Blues (Robert Pete Williams)

Side B: 1. Motherless Children Have A Hard Time (Robert Pete Williams) 2. Black Night

Fallin’ (Hogman Maxey) 3. Some Got Six Months (Robert Pete Williams) 4. I’m Gonna Leave

You Mama (Guitar Welch) 5. I’m Lonesome Blues (Robert Pete Williams)

Release : 24/ 05 / 2010

“You've Come a Long Way, Baby” was Fatboy Slim’s 2nd studio album, released on 19 October 1998 on Skint

Records. Fatboy Slim was –of course- none other than Norman Cook, formerly of The Housemartins, Beats

International and Freakpower. “You've Come a Long Way, Baby” peaked at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart

and 34 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Four hit singles were released from the album: "The Rockafeller Skank",

"Gangster Trippin", "Praise You", and "Right Here, Right Now", each of which reached the top 10 in the UK

Singles Chart.

The album mostly received very high praise from critics, particularly for its beats and catchy hooks, and is

considered a benchmark album in so-called Big Beat Music. In 1999, it was certified 3× platinum by the British

Phonographic Industry (BPI) and platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2000,

the album was ranked number 81 in Q magazine's readers' poll of the "100 Greatest British Albums Ever".

URBAN DANCE SQUAD

MENTAL FLOSS FOR THE GLOBE

LP Cat No:MOVLP097 Barcode: 0886977231315

9f1e13aed20280580e04146od1.jpg

At the end of the 80’s -in the central part of Holland- a one-off jam session by local musicians led to the

birth of an influential and groundbreaking group: The Urban Dance Squad: Led by MC/Singer Rudeboy,

who was backed by a traditional rockband line-up plus DJ DNA, they pioneered the Rock-meets-Rap

movement in Holland and abroad. Not fitting in either one of those categories, they singlehandedly

created their own mix of genres: Rocking with the toughest while maintaining street credibility.

On the heals of their 1989 debut ”Mental Floss for the Globe” they toured on both sides of the Atlantic

and gained praise by fellow musicians Rage Against The Machine and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. ‘Deeper

Shade of Soul’ proved a song with international hit-appeal and several tracks off the album turned up in

Hollywood movies.

20 years after release, this LP was voted Most Important Dutch Album by Dutch OOR Magazine.

Definitely worthy of a remastered version, we present the long overdue audiophile pressing in a gatefold

sleeve with a lyric sheet to rap-a-long while headbanging to ‘Fast Lane’, ‘No Kid’, ‘Deeper Shade of Soul’

to name a few.

nine_lives.jpg

“Nine Lives” is the 12th studio album by American rockers Aerosmith, released March 18, 1997. They had

signed a multi‐million‐dollar contract with Columbia Records before they had completed their deal with

Geffen, which meant that a lot was riding on their first Columbia LP since ´82. During the recording the band

nearly broke up, and they worked with a number of producers — including Glen Ballard, the man behind

Alanis Morissette — before settling on Kevin Shirley. The album peaked at #1 at the Billboard Charts and

hitsingle "Pink” won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance.

The album has been released with various tracklistings (ranging from 12 to 15 tracks). This audiophile

pressing contains the ‘European’ listing with 15 tracks. Includes the monster hit ‘I Don't Want To Miss A

Thing´, featured on the soundtrack of blockbuster movie “Armageddon”.

MILES DAVIS

KIND OF BLUE +2

Release : 07/ 06 / 2010

miles-davis-kind-of-blue.jpg

2LP Cat No:MOVLP019 Barcode: 0886976389413

So much has been said and written about Miles Davis’ “Kind Of Blue”, it’s virtually impossible to summarize all the

necessary info to the length of this note. We could simply list some facts (best sold Jazz album ever worldwide). We

could try to explain why it’s the best jazz album ever made, but the music itself will do that to you. As Bill Evans said

in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Miles

Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled and the band improvised.

The end results were fragile and wondrous. Recorded during 2 sessions in 1959, “Kind of Blue” worked on many

different levels and will do so for many years to come.

We´re proud to announce a very special version of the most influential (jazz)album ever. We present the orginal

album in remastered form plus an extra LP containing 2 tracks that weren’t available on vinyl before (an alternate

take of ‘Flamenco Sketches ‘ and a version of ‘On Green Dolphin Street’ recorded prior to the Kind of Blue sessions,

with the legendary line-up of Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb).

We present a limited number of the album on classy blue 180 grams vinyl (3000 numbered copies).

Also, we´ve graced this first-time ever 2LP edition of this musical masterpiece with a gatefold sleeve with additional

liner notes.

TURIN BRAKES

OUTBURSTS

turinbrakes_outbursts.gif

LP Cat No:MOVLP108 Barcode: 8713748980078

Turin Brakes’ Olly and Gale have rediscovered the working practices that got them started in the first place. Written,

produced and (for the most part) performed entirely by the two of them, “Outbursts” is a collection of songs that

returns to the essence of Turin Brakes. The post-punk-new-wave sound of 2007’s “Dark On Fire” is gone, back are

the heartfelt ballads, combined with feel good music!

Turin Brakes’ strength and essence is summed up in one of the album's standout songs, “Never Stops”, a soulful

repetative song with a bluesy feel, that shows the enduring spirit of Turin Brakes. “Paper Heart” is a vulnerable little

song with a haunting piano and string part. Gale, who wrote two of the twelve songs, is reluctant to analyze the

songs in terms of personal experience. “You pick up on a tiny emotion within yourself and turn it into a film,” Gale

says. “That's what being a good songwriter is all about, and Olly is one of the very best.

One of the most dramatic songs on the album is “Radio Silence”, a song which captures a sense of OK Computer-era

Radiohead. “I just poured my heart out/Did I go too far?” Olly sings on the beautiful, melancholic title track

“Outbursts”, a song that recalls the jazz standards of the 1920s.

With artwork to match the sonic outbursts on the record and a classy 8-page full-colour booklet, this

album is a piece of art in more ways than one!

DENNIS WILSON

PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE

lsun5212-3.jpg

LP Cat No:MOVLP096 Barcode:0886977316913

Release : 24/ 05 / 2010

At first a somewhat un-noticed Wilson brother at the beginning of the Beach Boys’ career, Dennis Wilson later

matured into an excellent songwriter, producer, and vocalist. His heartfelt ballads and pop gems contributed heavily

to the Beach Boys' late 60’s and early 70’s output. A ‘target’ of female enthusiasm, Dennis was assigned lead vocals

for a few early novelty songs: "Little Girl (You're My Miss America)", "Surfers Rule," and "This Car of Mine." His first

hit came in 1965 when "Do You Wanna Dance" opened the “The Beach Boys Today!” album and cracked the Top 20.

After the high peaks and deep valleys of the Beach Boys career during the late '60s, Dennis began writing songs

("Little Bird," "Be Still") for 1968's ‘Friends’. Throughout the early '70s, Beach Boys fans counted on at least two

Dennis songs on each LP, often tender ballads. He made his first attempt at a solo album as early as 1970, but

quietly released only one single. He started work again in 1975, recording with friend and producer Gregg Jakobsen

during 1976 to complete “Pacific Ocean Blue”.

Though Dennis had started work on his second (provisionally titled ‘Bamboo’) even before the release of “Pacific

Ocean Blue”, increasing problems caused several holdups.

In late 1983 Wilson drowned while diving around his boat in Marina del Ray, CA. “Pacific Ocean Blue” is his only

complete solo effort released to the public and we’re pleased to offer it in audiophile quality!

KINGS OF LEON

YOUTH & YOUNG MANHOOD

kings_of_leon-youth__young_manhood-frontal.jpg

2LP Cat No:MOVLP100 Barcode: 0886977316616

Release : 24 / 05 / 2010

“Youth & Young Manhood” was Kings of Leon’s debut album, released in August 2003. The title was taken from a

drawing of the family tree of Moses, found on the inside of one of their Pentecostal preaching father's Bibles.

According to the band, each branch contained a line that could have passed for an album title. “Youth & Young

Manhood”, however, seemed fitting and was quickly agreed upon by all members. The album was recorded between

Sound City Studios, California (where Nirvana's ‘Nevermind’ and Fleetwood Mac's ‘Rumours’ were recorded) and

Shangri‐La Studio in Malibu. Many critics appreciated the band's punk and garage rock‐influenced revival of the

southern rock genre with UK’s NME hailing the album among the "best debuts of the last 10 years". Allmusic claimed

the album contained "some greasy licks that sure sound good". Village Voice called the album "2003's finest rock

debut". Rolling Stone declared that the band knew "when to lay back and let things simmer" as well as "when to jump

up and testify with tambourines banging" in a favorable review. A promising debut, which led the way for steady

growth, musically and commercially in later years. Like the Music on Vinyl release of ‘Aha Shake Hearbreak’, this Kings

of Leon LP comes in Gatefold sleeve. Originally released on limited double‐10”vinyl, this 180 grams audiophile 2LP

includes the formerly CD‐only bonus track ‘Talihina Sky’!
