  1. Well, the Aries Cerat electronics does not have tone control neither but every element allows to play with the bias. By increasing or decreasing those, there is the possibility to tune the system sound to one's liking, more organic, more neutral, more dynamic, more closed,.... This can be done at the DAC or phono stage, preamp and power amp stages. It allows also to obtain a coherent system voicing independent of the source being used! Last but not least, the crossover of each horn speaker has a knob that allows to increase or decrease the midrange gain by steps of 1 dB. Also the tweeter, that is installed on a magnetic suspension can be turned more towards or away from the listener to tune the amount of direct radiation. So, just a whole other way to tune the system not only to one's room but also to your personal preference depending on the type of music you listen most to. Nowadays, even the most expensive speakers are made as one robust package that cannot be altered, but this is very counterintuitive as we all know the huge influence a room and personal taste has on how a speaker and system behind should be sounding in our listening room!
  2. Stabat Mater from Boccherini, a marvelous piece! And the Mass for Peace from Karl Jenkins, a gripping piece about the cruelty and insanity of (first world) war.
  3. Interesting you prefer the 1955 version. I thought the consensus was the 1981 version is the better one, you triggered me to give the 1955 version a good listen then !
  4. Hello, I was not aware of that. Guess you must have both issues and if so, which one is better?
  5. A memorable evening guys!! Thanks Bebop for clarifying on the two versions. I had noticed that the cover included in Karl's post was the one of the 1955 version, it is effectively the 1981 version we listened to. The latter is by the way quite easily available in vinyl https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=48325&ev=mb&format=Vinyl . Very best
  6. Dvorâk, Boccherini (very beautiful!), D'astorga, Scarlatti, Haydn, Arvo Pärt, ... writing a Stabat Mater version was (and still is as Pärt shows) very fasionable for every self respecting composer one would say. Don't know why Bach or Händel didn't come to write one (as far as I know...).
  7. All treatment is designed and delivered by SMT (Matts Odemalm). The diamond shape ceiling was made at a brief moment in time in SMT's history. I think I may even be the only one to have a ceiling full of them. They weigh like 25 kgs each, AS They are made in massive wood and thus extremely inert and help me to cope with Extensive diffusion and scattering with my low 2:45 cms ceiling. Ceiling ice 2.35cms after treatment.
  8. On behalf of Mr. D and myself I thank you for having spent the time and money to come over here! We were very honored that you did so, even without knowing us at all or only via via. It has been an inspiring and enriching experience for us as well. On my account, I certainly hope to be able to meet you in Sweden to see your discoveries .
  9. Another interesting feature to know Is that AriesCerat developed the Symphonia before it started to developping the laptop. Why? Because Stavros was frustrated with the laptop available at that time, so as The Busy Bee he is, he started to developping his own circuits from scratch. Stavros Eventually started making scaled-down models of the Symphonia (Gladius and Stentor, not commercialized anymore) That the match with his laptop as well.
  10. Note that the Symphonia, the first speaker built by Stavros of AriesCerat, has been in development for almost 8 years before it got commercialised. Note also that the Fostex driver talked about is a bespoke version for AriesCerat, just like all other drivers used in that speaker. Often such Fostex driver is used for a wideband application, like in Tune Audio's Marvel, but in the Symphonia it only operates until 450 Hz where the midrange horn takes over from that point (with some sloping of course) till 3000 Hz when the RAAL tweeter again takes over. So each driver, though having the potential for a much larger frequency range like the ribbon tweeter used in electromagnetic panels is used all the way from 500 Hz to 20 Khz , is applied in the Symphonia in a much narrower frequency band thus greatly reducing distortion, increasing sensitivity, etc.
  11. Well bebop, I never thought of That to be honest. But an unbalance in recordings is there all too often, including with digital. I simply use the left / right balance of the preamp That When It is to a disturbing degree. If I would adjust it on the tape deck one would need to check (and possibly change it) each time taking even more time before starting to listen to music and then the risk of not setting it back to its original position is very real in my case . With the preamp it is visual and I look straight at it When sitting on my sofa.
  12. Thank you Calm for the compliment! And to come back to bepop's comment: one has to get a bit used to listen to horn speakers as they effectively tend to overrule the usual laws of dynamic speakers and hence you have to open up to a whole new world.
  13. I effectively do not intend to record, I wouldn't know what from. This unit is purely for listening. And effectively, if one day I would want to record something, as bepop mentioned there are some solutions available to get the VU-metering. A plus for me was, since I like to listen in pitch dark, I do not have VU-meter lighting up my place :-)
  14. That is the mono power amplifier from AriesCerat, type Concero 65, a pure Single Ended Triode design. Input tube is an 814 Output tubes are parallel mounted 813 tubes wired like a SET. Unique feature of this amplifiers is that not only do they have a high power output for a SET-amplifier but they equally have a huge energy storage, you are invited to compare with the biggest solidstate amplifiers of big brands. Output power @ 8 ohm 65 Watt Noise floor <-100 dB Output with three selectable impedance ranges: 1-2ohm , 2-4 ohm, 4-8 ohm (option) Tube life 4-6000 hours Tubes warranty 6 months Amplifier warranty 2 years for parts, lifetime for labor Total capacitance per channel 700.000 µFarad Loudspeaker taps 4 and 8 ohm Choke and supercap energy storage per channel 1500 joule Input impedance 22k ohms Power bandwith at 1W 10Hz-120kHz (-3dB) Power bandwith at 30W 15Hz-110kHz (-3dB) Power consumption 500 Watt per channel Dimensions 500mmW X 590mmD X 370mmH (including tubes) In essence, these monoblocks were previously able to drive my Rockport Avior speakers as well as the Analysis Audio Omega panel speakers. And as they are designed to be at their best with horn speakers, they are extremely quiet. More info can be found here: http://aries-cerat.eu/products/amplifiers/concero-65
  15. Hello all, Honoured and glad to be able to contribute my little grain of salt to this forum. As the owner of the room being discussed here, I will gladly supply extra information when asked for. Thank you.
